Buddha Mahabodhi TempleThe tourism ministry has launched a plan for the development of Buddhist circuits in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that would create around 10,000 jobs and indirect employments.

Minister of Tourism and Culture Shripad Yesso Naik along with tourism ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh launched the strategy document investing in the Buddhist Circuit here.

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, in his maiden budget, had assigned Rs 500 million rupees for the development of five tourist circuit, the Buddhist circuit is one of them.

The total cost of the project will be Rs. 4.5 crore , of which the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the arm of the World Bank, will contribute 40 percent, which will be Rs.1.8 crore.

Ministry of Tourism will contribute Rs.2.25 crore and two state governments will offer five percent each, which is Rs.22.50.

“This is a proud moment for us., We put everything in place to start work on developing circuit take at least two months,” said Mr. Naik.

Onno Ruhl, World Bank’s country director for India said that they chose to work on this project as it would help to generate employment opportunities for the people of those states who need better ways of employing their people.

Mr Ruhl also added that World Bank has been working to eradicate poverty but people need jobs. If I compare India with other countries, it has potential but that is not matching to what the world is offering,” said Mr Ruhl.

He elaborated on the focus towards building better roads, hotels and infrastructure for pilgrims and tourists.

Magadh University (MU) has decided to observe its 49th foundation day on March 1 on the sprawling university campus at Bodh Gaya. Governor cum Chancellor of varsities Devanand Konwar is likely to be the chief guest on the occasion.

A variety of cultural programmes and felicitation of meritorious students will mark the foundation day function, an MU official said. According to him , the Governor would also lay the foundation stone for the construction of state-of-art engineering cum technical college and college of law on the university campus.

MUTA demands: Magadh University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) president A K Singh Thakur has urged chief minister Nitish Kumar and HRD minister P K Sahi to ask MU VC Arvind Kumar to defer the date of MU senate meeting slated for February 25 at Bodh Gaya as most of the members, particularly MLAs and MLCs, would face problem in attending in view of the ongoing session of the state legislature . Besides, MUTA also demanded transparency in the functioning of MU.

Matric centre: BD College has been made a centre for matriculation examination which began on Wednesday. The examination was held peacefully on the first day. The college administration has shifted classes from 1.30 pm onwards for Honours and vocational courses to fulfil the needs of students.

Medicare facility: BS College, Danapur, has started first aid facility on the college campus. Two trained employees of the college have been deputed to provide first aid to students, including girls, in case of any injury or sickness on the campus , said college principal Praveen Kumar. According to him, the college is likely to get Rs 25 lakh from the UGC for developing the required infrastructure in science laboratories.

Besides, the college is going to start degree-level teaching in commerce stream from this year to cater to the needs of students, he said, adding a vocational course in Functional English is to be introduced soon in the college.

Students’ union poll: Students of MU studying at degree and post-graduate level have urged the VC to hold students’ union polls at the earliest so that democratic system could be restored in the university and constituent colleges, said Avinash Kumar, a student.
